And while most of the event’s content may have focused on Kontagent’s core social/mobile/gaming app verticals, a presentation on the so-called 7 Deadly Sins of Data Science by President and Chief Science Officer Josh Williams had solid advice on common pitfalls to avoid no matter how you’re leveraging analytics. Williams’ seven points, as per his presentation:
Read them all at servicesangle.com

Posted via email from kristennicole’s posterous | Comment »

BumeBox CEO on the Impact of Real-Time Data for Social Marketing [Q&A Series] | @SiliconANGLE

Another recent project for BumeBox was a team-up with eBay Fashion UK, powering an online “style off” for fashion bloggers and viewers from across the world. The granddaughter of lauded opera performer Zhou Xinfang, and daughter of famed restaurateur Michael Chow and the late, iconic fashion model Tina Chow, China grew up surrounded by America’s artistic glitterati. After an early modeling career that included campaigns for Lane Crawford, Barneys and Karl Lagerfeld, Chow has recently made a transition into the art world. “I learned so much from the artists that I got to know as a child growing up in New York,” she explains. “In particular, those who were around the most really made an impact on me: Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring and Andy Warhol.” Currently hosting Bravo’s Work of Art: The Next Great Artist alongside famed auctioneer Simon de Pury, Chow helps judge the work of up-and-coming artists competing for a solo exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum and a cash prize of $100,000. This month Chow makes a return to her former profession and graces the cover of Vogue China. In town for the Boss Black fall/winter 2012 fashion show, the sophisticated socialite took a moment of out her hectic schedule to reflect on China and a childhood spent at Mr. Chow.
via nowness.com

Posted via email from kristennicole’s posterous | Comment »

How to Think Like a Genius - TEDx Talk with @hideshione

via youtube.com

Love this - reminds me of what’s going on with big data and the emergence of data scientists. These are two of the skill sets you’ll need to develop if you’re thinking about becoming a data scientist, according to two industry veterans from Greenplum. During their interview at theCube at EMC World’s Data Science Summit mini event, Kelly took the opportunity to delve into an important area of the big data buzzword–how it actually translates to a career path to fill the growing gaps around emerging big data technology…
Read the story at siliconangle.com

Posted via email from kristennicole’s posterous | Comment »

The Best of Mark Zuckerberg | @SiliconANGLE

With the current asset valuation of Facebook, the entire GDP of Afghanistan ($17.9 billion), Nepal ($18.3 billion) and Jamaica ($14.7 billion) is lower than Zuckerberg’s company market value. Not every acquisition means the end of their service, but after web 2.0 the savviest of users will at least back up their data. So far it’s evident Facebook’s purchased Instagram for its presence and popularity, while its latest buy, Lightbox, was for talent. Whatever Facebook’s reasons, it’d be a good idea on your part to save your photos and personal data. An avid baseball infielder at the University of San Francisco, Lounibos is now honored with a name plate in the school’s Hall of Fame. Lounibos learned a few important lessons in baseball that carried over into his work with SOASTA, which he shares with us in today’s Profile series. SOASTA, a cloud and mobile testing platform, has had some news of its own. The company was one of the early supporters of HP’s new Cloud Services, which is the latest public cloud offering in a rapidly crowding space.
